Description

A row of four cottages located in Bampton Street, Minehead, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The cottages are built with painted render over a cob or rubble stone base, and feature a continuous thatched roof with rubble stone and brick stacks. Each cottage has either a one- or two-unit plan, with rear wings. A 19th-century pantiled lean-to, now used as a garage, extends from the left side. The cottages are two stories high; numbers 38 and 44 have a two-window front, and numbers 40 and 42 have a single-window front. They contain 19th-century three-light casement windows, with first-floor windows positioned at eaves level. The cottages have 19th-century segmental-arched doorways, with the doorway at number 40 distinguished by a pedimented hood, likely dating from the 19th century. The interiors have not been inspected. The group value stems from the cottages' contribution to the streetscape.
