Description
The stables and coach house adjacent to Babington House, dating from the 18th century, have been divided into three dwellings, with part used as a garage. The building features ashlar and coursed squared rubble, a first-floor band, a moulded cornice, and a parapet with coping. It has a double-span hipped slate roof, ashlar stacks with moulded caps, and a windvane. The symmetrical front has two storeys and is arranged in a 2:1:2 bay configuration, with the central bay breaking forward under a broad triangular pediment that includes a clock in the tympanum. The façade is adorned with 2-light stone-mullioned windows, each light containing a sash with glazing bars. There is a broad central carriage opening with a metal door, a narrower door opening to the left with paired plank doors, and three additional door openings, two of which are panelled and one a 20th-century plank door. The left return features two pitching eyes in decorative freestone surrounds. Inside, the room on the right of the ground floor serves as a dairy and includes a good fireplace with an overmantel.
