Description
The stables and carriage house at Darnaway Castle, built around 1800, is a two-storey, symmetrical structure with seven bays, facing north. It is constructed of rubble with tooled ashlar dressings. The building features round-headed carriage entrances located in the slightly advanced outer bays and on the return elevations. There is a central loft door on the first floor, flanked by small windows, although some modern garage openings disrupt the symmetry of the central ground floor bays. The windows have four-pane glazing, and the building has coped end stacks and a piended slate roof. At the rear, there is a forestair that provides access to the loft entrance. Inside, some stalls with cast-iron fittings remain.
