Description

The Old Vicarage is a vicarage that has been converted into a private dwelling. It dates back to the 16th century and was enlarged with an additional bay to the north shortly after its original construction. In the 19th century, a south-west cross wing was added, and the original gable end was rebuilt. A single-storey corridor was also added to the center to link the wings. The building features a roughcast facade and an exposed red brick gable end on the north-east side, which has coped verges. The roof is covered with plain clay tiles, and there is a lean-to roof over the corridor. Brick stacks are located at the right junction with the cross wing and a lateral stack rises at the rear. The structure is U-shaped, facing north-west, and was originally designed with three cells and a cross passage, possibly including a smoke bay at the south-west gable end. It has two storeys with a 1:3:1 bay arrangement, where the end bays are unlit. All windows are leaded casements, and there are gabled dormers that rise through the eaves. The central entrance features a gabled top and double doors, with gabled dormers in the re-entrant angles of one bay. The interior has not been seen but is said to have been extensively altered in the late 19th century, although it retains evidence of a wind-braced, jointed cruck truss roof and one framed, arch-braced truss to the right of the cross passage.
