Description
Calmady House is a house dating from the late 18th century, with an enlargement from the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with Ham stone dressings and a slate roof featuring coped verges behind a parapet, as well as a pyramid roof on the addition. The house has an L-plan layout, consisting of a double pile with a one-bay addition on the right and a long service wing at the rear. It stands two storeys high and has a façade with three bays on the left and one bay on the right. The building features a moulded ashlar cornice below the parapet, 12-pane sash windows on the first floor, and 16-pane sash windows in the addition and on the ground floor. The entrance is located at the centre of the original block and consists of a six-panel door with good contemporary brass door furniture, a fanlight, and an ashlar open pediment doorcase supported by Tuscan columns that lack an entablature, giving the addition a slender appearance.
