Description
The Rose and Crown Hotel is an inn that dates back to the 16th or 17th century, although it underwent significant rebuilding in the late 19th century. The exterior is roughcast with a double-Roman tile roof featuring a crested ridge and brick stacks. The building has two storeys and consists of five bays, primarily featuring 3-light casements with glazing bars. Notably, there is a flat-roofed canted bay window in the fourth bay, also with casements that have glazing bars. The entrance is located in the second bay, marked by a plank door with a flat hood supported by wrought-iron brackets, accessed via a flight of 20th-century concrete steps. There is also a single-storeyed lean-to attached to the building. Inside, the hotel features a chamfered cross-beam ceiling and a fireplace with a moulded surround, freestone jambs, and a wooden 4-centred arch bressumer.
