Description
Crossway Farmhouse is a farmhouse that possibly dates back to the 17th century, with alterations and expansions made in the late 18th to early 19th centuries, and further changes in the early 20th century. The building is constructed of red brick with blue lias plinths of varying heights and features a roughcast facade. The rear includes brick additions, and the roof is thatched, with slates on the rear range, coped verges, and brick stacks at the gable ends.
The farmhouse has a parallel range and was likely originally designed as a three-cell structure with a cross passage. Stairs have been inserted where the hall stack was located beside a blocked through passage. It is one and a half storeys high with a three-to-one bay arrangement. The early 20th-century casements include three-light windows on the upper floor and three and four-light windows on the ground floor. The entrance is located between the first and second bays on the right and features an early 20th-century thatched brick porch, along with applied half-timbering in the gable end and a half-glazed plank inner door.
The right return gable end has no windows, and the left return facade gable end is also unlit. The rear range has two 20th-century metal windows and a pointed arch window in the center of the ground floor. There are 20th-century additions at the rear. The interior has partially visible features, including 16th-century panelling that has been reset across the former through passage and an early 19th-century stick stair.
