Description
The Bell Inn is an inn dating from the late 17th century. It has a roughcast exterior and a double Roman tile roof with coped verges and brick stacks. The building features a symmetrical facade with a lobby entrance, standing two stories high and comprising three bays. The windows are stone mullions, with the upper floor featuring two and three-light designs; all except the right bay have ovolo moulding, while the right bay has a 20th-century casement. The central doorway has an ovolo moulded stone surround and a reproduction studded door from the 20th century, with a transom light above it. To the left, there is a two-story wing with two bays under a low mansard roof, which has 20th-century casements except for a plain two-light stone mullion window that is now partly obscured by a 20th-century door opening. This wing also features a reproduction studded door and an open pent-roofed porch supported by slender wooden pillars. Inside, the inn contains two broad fireplaces with wooden lintels supported by stone jambs; the right hearth has dressed and moulded stone, and the stone fireback is dated 1683.
