Description
Hillside is a house located on North Street in Crewkerne, dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with a Ham Hill stone ridge, featuring stepped coping, a cornice, rusticated quoins, a plinth, and dressings, along with brick stacks at the gable ends. The building has a double-depth central through-passage plan and is two storeys tall, presenting a symmetrical three-window range.
All openings are adorned with stepped moulded architraves that include keystones above the windows and a moulded cornice above the door. The windows are late 19th-century horned 2/2-pane sashes. At the rear, there is a door with a mid-18th-century cast-iron fanlight set into the thick wall; the jambs are plain, and the semi-circular arch is stepped back. The first floor features two 3/6-pane sashes with thick glazing bars.
Inside, the ground floor showcases 18th-century moulded architraves and some six-panel doors. The rear left room contains a large open fireplace.
