Description
West Lodge is a lodge built in 1834, although it appears to have been modified in the later 19th century. It is constructed from local stone rubble with Ham stone dressings and features a plain clay tiled roof accented with bands of beaver-tail tiles and an ornamental ridge, along with stone chimney stacks. The building is single-storey with an attic and has a three-bay east elevation. The second bay features a gabled projection, while the first bay includes a lean-to porch with a three 4-centre-arched-light window. The first bay also has an angled bay with one large light and three smaller lights under a hipped tiled roof, along with a single-light attic window above. The third bay contains a single-light window. The second bay has ornamental bargeboards and a spike finial with a pendant. The matching south elevation does not have a bay window but includes an added dormer window to the first bay and a lean-to against the projecting gable. The interior has not been inspected. This lodge was erected when the area was emparked by the owner of Cricket House, though it seems to have undergone modifications or rebuilding in the later 19th century.
