Description
The farmbuildings, which include a barn, waterwheel, and shelter sheds, are located to the west of Bridge Farmhouse. The barn dates from the 18th century, possibly earlier, with its walls raised and reroofed in the 19th century. It is constructed of red sandstone random rubble, with brick gable ends and window surrounds, and has an asbestos slate roof. The barn is two storeys high and consists of nine bays, featuring two and three-light openings on the west front and a 19th-century king post roof.
The undershot iron waterwheel, believed to have been made by Chidgey around 1900, was used for milling flour until the mid-20th century. The shelter sheds are attached at the northwest, facing north, and are built of red sandstone random rubble with hipped pantiled roofs. They have a roughly V-plan layout, comprising four bays on one side and seven on the other, with mostly circular piers and some inserted wooden columns.
These farmbuildings form an important group with Bridge Farmhouse to the southeast, and the Church of St Peter and Church Cottages across the orchard to the west.
