Description
Leigh Road Railway Bridge is a road bridge over a railway, built around 1860. It is constructed from rusticated and squared local lias stone, with some sections made of boasted Ham stone copings. The bridge features cast iron girders that support slightly arched brick vaults. At both ends and at the bank seats, there are square piers, along with a boasted band course at road level. The parapets are flat and topped with simple Ham stone copings. The four cast iron beams have segmental bottom flanges and are connected by three tie-rods that provide additional support to the brick vaults carrying the road. According to the Industrial Archaeological Society, this bridge is one of only two of its type still remaining in the county.
