Description
Forde Grange, along with two attached cottages, is a former farmhouse that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with alterations from the 17th century and later. The building features rubble walls with stone quoins and stone copings on the gable ends. It has a slate roof with two brick stacks at the ridge and stands at one and a half storeys tall. The façade has a seven-window range with casements that have wooden frames and glazing bars. There are six half-dormers with pitched slate roofs and bargeboards, dating from the 19th century. A straight joint can be seen between the fourth and fifth windows from the left. To the left, there is a porch with an elliptical-headed arch key and imposts, all made of stone.
Inside, on the right side, there is an excellent studded plank door with strap hinges, dating from the 16th or 17th century. The left side features plastered-over crucks, and the ceiling beams are heavily moulded on the vertical sides and chamfered off. A datestone above a blocked fireplace reads "Esq F.G. 1749". The building also contains three sets of crucks.
