Description

This is a pair of symmetrical houses dating from the 18th century, situated on the south side of Eastborough. The houses are constructed of brick with painted stone detailing at floor levels, topped by a bracketed cornice and a slate roof. The six-bay front features windows with no glazing bars; ground and first-floor windows have painted arches and stone sills. The central Ionic porch is notable, featuring five pilasters framing a pair of six-panel doors. The porch is further accentuated by two columns supporting an enriched entablature with a curved frieze and deep open pediment, adorned with enriched octagonal panels to the soffit. A lead rainwater pipe with a cast head runs centrally, and the property is bordered by plain cast iron railings. The interiors have been altered, although No. 37 retains an open string staircase with moulded, swept-out balusters, along with mahogany doors. Nos. 37 to 43 (odd) are designated as a group.
