Description

No 3 Palace Hill Terrace is a house located on the north side of Eastborough, dating back to the early 18th century, with significant alterations made in 1820 when the house was doubled in depth. The building stands three storeys high with an attic, constructed of cement-rendered brick featuring string courses between the storeys, likely on moulded brick. It has a parapet with moulded coping and a symmetrical front with three windows, which include flush architrave framed sashes with intact glazing bars. The gable end roof is covered with pantiles and features a central gabled dormer. There is a modern door on the right side with a plain fanlight.

Inside, the structure includes stone brought as ballast from Holland, sandstone, and brick, along with some traces of simple timber framing. The original staircase has an open string and a swept rail, although the bannisters are boxed in. The front ground floor room has a panelled dado, while the first-floor room on the same side features full-height fielded panelling and dado, which is also present in the second-floor front room. The kitchen contains panelling and remains of a massive fireplace. Other rooms in the house date from the early 19th century.

Nos 1 to 7 Palace Hill Terrace, along with the steps, rails, and terrace, form a cohesive and attractive group.
