Description
Nos 21 and 23 on St Sepulchre Street are early 18th century houses that were altered in the mid-19th century to function as two separate dwellings. The buildings are three storeys tall and have a stucco exterior with rusticated flanking strips and a sill course on the second floor. The low-pitched gable end slate roof features a shallow eaves band.
On the second floor, there are three recessed sash windows, two of which retain their glazing bars. The first floor has four windows grouped as pairs within camber-headed eared architrave surrounds that include keystones. The ground floor features one similar window on the right and a mid-19th century three-light shop window with a pilaster frame and door on the left, topped with a frieze and cornice. In the center, there is an original entrance with a door made of six fielded panels, set within a Gibbs surround and topped with a pediment.
Inside No 21, the kitchen has exposed beams, one of which is supported by a turned post, and there is a wooden partition. The front room has panelling that is partly covered over.
These buildings, along with the other listed structures on the south side from Nos 21 to 31 (odd), including Trinity House, form a cohesive group.
