Description
A house dating from the mid-to-late 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. The front is built of orange-red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with dressed sandstone to the sides and rear. It features ashlar quoins and dressings, and a pantile roof with brick stacks. The house follows a central stairhall plan, with a depth of one and a half rooms, and a rear service extension was added later. The front of the building has three stories and three windows. Raised quoins mark the corners. A projecting two-story porch was added in the late 19th century, containing a four-panel door topped by a fanlight, with a glazed iron bay window above. A late 19th-century canted bay window is present on each side of the front. The first floor features tall four-pane sashes, and the second floor has square four-pane sashes. All upper windows are surrounded by eared and shouldered stone architraves. Raised bands mark the first and second floors. A moulded eaves cornice runs along the top of the building. Coped gables and end stacks are present. At the rear of the house, the original front doorcase has been re-used; this features a patterned fanlight with fluted pilasters and an entablature and cornice above. On the left gable wall is a twelve-pane attic window, and two false twelve-pane windows are visible at the first and second floor levels.
