Description
Crakehall Corn Mill is an early 19th-century corn water-mill located on the north side of the A684 in Crakehall. The building is constructed of coursed rubblestone and features a pantile roof. It stands two storeys tall and has three bays, with a lower outshut on the right that accommodates the water-wheel. The gable wall includes four steps leading up to a boarded stable door in the left-hand bay. To the right of these steps, at floor level, there is a small four-pane casement window, and the right-hand bay contains a six-pane casement window. On the first floor, the outer bays have blind square recesses, while the centre bay features a twelve-pane casement window. Inside, the mill retains its complete machinery, including a water-wheel made by F Mattison and Co from Bedale. The current mill is situated on the site of earlier mills.
