Description

Hilltop Cottage is a house dating from the mid to late 18th century, with later alterations. It originally comprised a house and an outbuilding, now integrated into the main structure. The house is built of rubble stone, with brick and stone dressings and a pantile roof. It is two storeys high and has four bays. The front doorway has six panels, with the top two panels glazed, and is set beneath a segmental brick arch. To the right of the door is a 20th-century canted bay window with glazing bars, a stone sill and a frieze. To the left of the door is a twelve-pane side-sliding sash window, also set beneath a segmental brick arch. The left-hand bay has a 20th-century casement window, and the bay to the right has a carriage arch with an ashlar basket arch. One half of this arch has been blocked in and contains a twelve-pane side-sliding sash window, while the other half forms an alleyway to the rear of the house. All first-floor windows are twelve-pane side-sliding sashes, except for the left-hand bay, which has a 20th-century casement. There are three ridge stacks.
