Description

Langar Cottages are two cottages, likely originally three, built in two phases. The right cottage dates from the mid to late 18th century, while the left cottage is from the early to mid 19th century. The left cottage features a limestone ashlar construction with a pantile roof, while the right cottage is made of hammer-dressed limestone with a French tile roof.

The left cottage is two storeys high and has two first-floor windows. It has a central four-panel door with a divided overlight above it. Throughout the cottage, there are four-pane sash windows set beneath stone lintels. The eaves are sprocketed, and there are stacks at both the right end and the ridge.

The right cottage is also two storeys tall and has five first-floor windows. To the left, there is a half-glazed door with a four-pane sash window to its left and a casement window to its right. To the right, there is a boarded door with a divided overlight above it, flanked by two six-pane sash windows on the left and one on the right. On the first floor, there are a two-light Yorkshire sash window and a casement window to the left, along with six-pane sash windows to the right. The arrangement of the windows and a straight joint above the right door suggest that this cottage was previously divided into two separate units. It also has end and ridge stacks. The left cottage is included for its group value.
