Description
These are two attached cottages located on the south-east side of The Green. The first cottage dates to the early 18th century, with later alterations. It is constructed of regularly coursed limestone and marlstone rubble, with a straw thatch roof. The cottage is one storey and has an attic. It has boarded doors to the left and far right, the left door featuring wedged voussoirs with a flush keystone, and the right door segmental-headed. There is a small 19th-century casement window to the left of each doorway, with the right casement being segmental-headed and featuring an eyebrow eaves dormer directly above. A small red brick ridge stack is located centrally. The second cottage likely dates to the early 19th century, and may incorporate elements of an earlier building, with later additions and alterations. It is built of regularly coursed limestone and marlstone rubble, with a slate roof. It is two storeys high. Four 19th-century segmental-headed casements are located directly below the eaves, and three are on the ground floor - one to the left and two to the right of the boarded door, which is situated beneath a cusped gabled hood to the left of centre. A 19th-century casement is positioned where a doorway was formerly infilled. Integral end stacks are on the left and a ridge stack on the right, both with red brick shafts; a section to the right of the ridge stack appears to be slightly later than the rest of the cottage. A 19th-century lean-to is attached to the rear on the right.
