Description

Waywardens is a farmhouse, now a house, likely built in the early to mid 18th century with some remodeling around 1790, as indicated by a reputed datestone, and further alterations in the mid to late 19th century. The building is constructed of roughly coursed limestone rubble with alternating angle quoins and features a stone slate roof with coped verges. It stands two storeys high with an attic and has a three-window front. The windows are four-paned horned sashes set in plain stone surrounds, with projecting keystones above the lintels on the first floor and at the lower left and right.

A prominent canted bay window with horned four-paned sashes is located in the centre. The entrance is positioned between the left window and the bay window, featuring a four-panel door with leaded glazing in the top panels and a rectangular overlight with a lintel similar to those above the windows. There are late 19th-century timber-framed and roughcast gabled dormers on the roof slope to the left and right. The building has integral ashlar end stacks and a ridge stack immediately to the right of the entrance, all with moulded dripstones and capping.

On the right gable end, there is a chamfered two-light mullion window on the ground floor. The rear of the house has a gabled staircase projection to the left, lit by two-light chamfered mullion windows on each floor, and a three-light chamfered mullion window on each floor to the right. Inside, there is an oak winder staircase that leads from the ground floor to the attic in the gabled projection.
