Description

College Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, likely built in the late 17th century with later additions and alterations. It features roughly coursed limestone and marlstone rubble, topped with a concrete tile roof that is half-hipped to the right. The building has two storeys, with 19th and 20th-century casements. There are four casements directly below the eaves on the upper floor (the right one is leaded) and five with wooden lintels on the ground floor, including one that is infilled where a doorway once was. There is another blocked doorway with a wooden lintel between the two right windows, and an infilled opening on the right gable end on the first floor. A straight joint to the left of the second window from the left indicates the separation of the house part from the former barn, which is noted in the interior description. The building has two ridge stacks to the right of the center, which were rebuilt in the 20th century above dripstones. Inside, the ground-floor rooms contain chamfered spine beams and joists, along with two inglenook fireplaces that have chamfered wooden lintels. Triangular air vents on the left gable end suggest that this section of the building was originally a barn and predates the adjacent Ringer's Cottage. The farmhouse is included for its group value.
