Description

KINGHAM CHURCH STREET SP22SE (East side) College Farmhouse 7/126

GV II

Farmhouse, now house. Probably late C17 with later additions and alterations. Roughly coursed limestone and marlstone rubble; concrete tile roof, half-hipped to right. 2 storeys. C19 and C20 casements, 4 directly below eaves (right leaded) and 5 with wood lintels to ground floor, third from left in position of infilled doorway. Another blocked doorway with wood lintel between 2 right windows. Infilled opening to right gable end on first floor. Straight joint immediately to left of second window from left separates house-part from former barn (see interior). 2 ridge stacks to right of centre rebuilt C20 above dripstones. Interior. Ground-floor rooms have chamfered spine beams and joists. 2 inglenook fireplaces with chamfered wood lintels. Triangular air vents visible to left gable end show that this part of the building was formerly a barn and that it is earlier than the adjoining Ringer's Cottage (q.v.). Included for group value.
