Description
Juniper House is a building that dates from the late 17th century and was later extended in the late 18th century, with further additions and alterations made over time. Originally shown on the Ordnance Survey map as a post office, it has now reverted entirely to domestic use. The structure features roughcast limestone rubble for the 17th-century section and roughly coursed limestone rubble for the 18th-century addition, topped with slate roofs that have coped verges.
The house is two storeys high with gable-lit attics. The 17th-century part consists of two bays, featuring a three-light chamfered leaded mullion window on each floor to the right and a two-light mullion window on the first floor to the left, directly above a 20th-century gabled stone porch. There is an integral end stack to the right with a purple engineering brick shaft above a dripstone.
To the left, the 18th-century addition includes a 19th-century single-storey gabled range, which was the former post office, with its eaves raised in the 20th century, projecting to the front. There are leaded casements on each side of the first floor, with the right window featuring a flush keystone, and one on the right side of the ground floor. A central ridge stack is present, also with a purple engineering brick shaft above a dripstone. A 20th-century flat-roofed addition at the rear of both ranges is not considered of special architectural interest.
