Description
The Old Ruined Church of All Hallows and Cross is located approximately 10 metres east of Birdsall House. This church features a 12th-century chancel arch and a 14th-century arcade, with a datestone from 1601 on the tower, which has likely been resited. The west tower is flanked by a four-bay south arcade and the chancel arch.
The west front includes a plinth and an 18th-century inserted window beneath a keyed stone lintel. The second stage of the tower steps back and has a small square-headed window to the west and a Tudor-arched door to the north. The south arcade consists of four pointed arches with two chamfered orders, supported by piers with a quatrefoil section and plain capitals. The chancel arch features two orders.
Inside, the chancel arch has three roll-moulded orders with nailhead decoration on rounded responds that have stylised volute capitals. There is a simple round font with four attached shafts that have been remounted and repositioned. Additionally, a damaged churchyard cross has been resited approximately 5 metres east of the chancel.
