VICTORIA ROAD NZ 1601 SE 681-/2/10004 No 27 and attached school rooms GV II

House and attached school rooms. c1850. Coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and slate roofs with coped gables. House has main facade to Victoria Street, 2 storey, 2 window front. Central doorway in chamfered ashlar surround with narrow overlight. Eitherside are single 3 light chamfered mullion windows with plain sashes. Above two 2-light chamfered mullion windows which rise through the eaves, with gabled dormers. East front has a single window in gable wall with to left a 3-light mullion window with pointed lights and above another 2-light through eaves dormer window. School room to rear, 2 storey, with 3 window east front. Ground floor has 3 2-light pointed arch windows with reticulated tracery and hood moulds. Above 3 pairs of small shouldered sashes. South gable front has 2 lancets with cusped heads and hood moulds with above a tall 2-light pointed arch window with reticulated tracery. To the left a square stair tower with pyramidal roof, with a single pointed arch doorway and above a squat lancet. This building may have been the original church which was converted into school rooms when the present church was built.
