Description

No. 27 and the attached school rooms are a house and school built around 1850. They are constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and feature slate roofs with coped gables. The house faces Victoria Street and is two stories tall with a two-window front. It has a central doorway framed by a chamfered ashlar surround with a narrow overlight. On either side of the door are single three-light chamfered mullion windows with plain sashes. Above, there are two two-light chamfered mullion windows that extend through the eaves, topped with gabled dormers.

The east front includes a single window in the gable wall, with a three-light mullion window with pointed lights to the left and another two-light dormer window above. The school room at the rear is also two stories high and has a three-window east front. The ground floor features three two-light pointed arch windows with reticulated tracery and hood moulds, while the upper floor has three pairs of small shouldered sashes. The south gable front displays two lancet windows with cusped heads and hood moulds, along with a tall two-light pointed arch window with reticulated tracery above. To the left, there is a square stair tower topped with a pyramidal roof, which has a single pointed arch doorway and a squat lancet above it. This building may have originally served as a church before being converted into school rooms when the current church was constructed.
