Description
The Old School House is a former school and school master's house built in the third quarter of the 19th century. It features coursed, squared stone with ashlar dressings and a clay tile roof. The building has a three-bay cross wing that was the former school and a two-bay house with a rear wing, all standing at one and a half storeys.
On the road side, there is a three-light mullioned window on the left, a slit window, and a half-glazed door that is accessed by one stone step, topped with a low, two-centred arch. Above this, the wall extends into two dormers, each with two-light mullioned windows and parapet gables, complete with a ridge roll. The left side has a parapet gable with an ashlar ridge chimney that has a moulded cap, and a smaller similar chimney is located to the right of the front door.
To the right, the projecting gable of the schoolroom features a tall, three-light mullioned window with two transoms and leaded lights. A hoodmould steps up over a plain shield above the centre light, and there is a relieving arch. Above this window, there is a slit window. The gable has a parapet with projecting kneelers and a cross-gablet apex topped with a stone finial. There is also a dormer on the right return, similar to the ones at the front. The building is likely associated with the National School, dated 1857 by the Victoria County History and 1870 by Kelly's Directory.
