Description
Carr Side Farmhouse and the adjoining outhouse date from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with an 18th-century addition. The building is constructed of coursed gritstone and features a graduated stone slate roof. It is two storeys high and has two bays, with a two-storey, two-bay block at a right angle to the left.
The main block has quoins and a central 20th-century half-glazed door with an ogee-moulded lintel and an effaced datestone to the left. Flanking the door are 4-light windows, which have been altered to 2-light double-chamfered mullion windows with sashes; there is also a square sash window far right. On the first floor, there are two 4-light windows, now also 2-light double-chamfered mullion windows with sashes. The building has stacks located at the left gable and in the centre, as well as a lean-to addition at the rear.
On the left return, there are two small rectangular chamfered stone windows on the ground floor and one on the first floor. A 3-light mullion window is positioned to the right on the first floor. The block to the left has quoins, a doorway with a plain surround to the right, and a 3-light flat-faced mullion window to the left. Above the door, there is a small square window, and a stack is located in the left gable end.
