Description
This is a Quaker meeting house dating to 1791, located in Kirkbymoorside. It is a rectangular building composed of two cells, with a porch on its west side. The main fabric is of coursed sandstone, while the porch is constructed of orange brick in a stretcher bond pattern. The roof is slate. The west porch features a round-arched entrance surround with a timber frame and panelled doors, containing a staircase within. It has 16-pane sash windows under simple timber lintels on both sides, and similar windows to the rear. A tripartite sash window with glazing bars is found in the right return wall. The roof is hipped. Inside, original features include a panelled gallery and raised Elders' benches, along with dado panelling. A canted sundial of iron and timber is set into the south wall of the porch. It bears the inscription “J, Russell. Dd. MDCCCX”.
