Description
No 83 West End is a house dating from the early to mid-18th century, with earlier origins. It features a partly cruck-framed structure made of coursed rubble sandstone, topped with a pantile roof and brick stacks. The building has a two-cell, direct-entry plan with doors positioned opposite each other. It is one and a half stories tall and has a two-window front. The central door is part-glazed and dates from the 20th century. All windows are two-light horizontal sliding sashes with glazing bars and stone sills, and there is a blocked fire-window to the left. The house has thin timber lintels and one end stack to the left of the steeply-pitched roof.
Inside, there is a stone spiral staircase located at the rear of the room to the right. The room to the left features a roughly-trimmed bressumer over the fireplace. Notably, one pair of crucks remains visible in the cross wall between the two rooms.
