Description
The Georgian House, now a residential home for elderly people, dates from the mid-18th century and was raised and extended in 1817, with further alterations in the late 19th and 20th centuries. The front is made of dressed sandstone, while the right gable wall is constructed of coursed rubble and brick, and the rear is in red brick laid in stretcher bond. The property features a slate roof and brick stacks.
The house has a central stairhall plan and was originally one room deep. The front is three stories high and symmetrical with three windows. It has raised quoins and a central four-panel door beneath a rectangular fanlight, which is set in a pedimented, pilastered doorcase. There are late 19th-century canted bay windows with segmental sashes on either side, topped with modillion cornices. The sash windows are framed in raised surrounds, and there are raised bands at the first and second floors, along with a moulded eaves cornice. End stacks are present, and on the right side of the first floor, there is a circular sundial in a raised surround, featuring a filigree gnomon that incorporates the initials 'TH'.
Inside, there is an open string staircase with turned balusters and decorated checkpieces.
