Description

This is a row of six houses, numbers 73 to 81, on North Marine Road, built around 1820 to 1830. The houses are constructed of red brick with grey brick headers, having stone sill courses to the ground and first floors. They feature a moulded wooden cornice and a slate mansard roof. Each house has an attic and a basement. The windows are mostly four-pane sashes, with three panes to the right of the front door and two panes above the doors. The front doors are made of six fielded panels and have two-pane fanlights, originally set within doorcases of modified Greek Doric style with fluted engaged columns and an entablature. The doorcase to number 79 has been replaced by a window, as it is now combined into one dwelling with number 81. Flights of steps lead to the entrances, which have Victorian railings. The listed buildings from numbers 31 to 115 (odd), alongside Gibson's Hotel, form a group of buildings of group value.
