Description
The Church of Saint John, built in 1841 for the Dalton family of Sleningford Grange, is located on the north side of Main Street in Mickley. The church features coursed split cobbles with ashlar dressings and a purple slate roof. It has a nave with four bays, a west bellcot, a south porch, and a one-bay chancel, all designed in the Early English style. The gabled porch has a chamfered arch, and the inner door is adorned with elaborate wrought-iron hinges. Lancet windows are set between stepped buttresses, with three lancets at the east end. Inside, there is a wide chancel arch flanked by boards displaying the Ten Commandments and the creed, along with contemporary furnishings. The roof is an open timber structure supported by common rafters.
