Description
Nos 51 and 52 on Village Street are a pair of cottages dating from the early 18th century, with alterations and extensions made around 1800 and in the 20th century. They are constructed from coursed limestone rubble, with some parts rendered, and feature a brick eaves course. No 51 has a brick porch on the right, while no 52 has a part-glazed porch. The cottages have a pantile roof with two rebuilt brick stacks.
The front of the building is one and a half stories high and has four windows, with a single-storey lean-to outbuilding on the left. Each cottage has a central plank door. The ground floor windows are two-light, top-opening, small-pane designs, with painted wedge lintels on no 51 and timber lintels on no 52. The first floor features two-light horizontal sliding sashes with painted stone sills, having 12 panes on no 51 and no glazing bars on no 52. There are end and centre stacks. Inside no 52, there are exposed square section beams throughout the ground floor.
