Description
This is a terrace of nine shops dating from the late 19th century, and restored around 1990. The buildings are constructed of coursed rusticated ashlar with ashlar dressings and slate roofs. They have bracketed eaves, plain sill bands, and impost bands, and are three storeys high with dormers. Each shop has three or four windows. Dormers are gabled, with alterations made to those at numbers 69 and 71. The first and second floors feature round arched windows, with a splayed bay window on the first floor. The ground floor shop frontages have largely been altered, with the exception of number 81. The terrace is notable for its well-preserved cast iron shopping arcades, featuring reeded columns painted black with decorative details highlighted with gold leaf and glazed roofs. These arcades are of group value and represent the last surviving example of their kind in Harrogate.
