Description
Nos 23 and 25 on High Street are two shops with a cart entrance between them and accommodation above, dating from the mid to late 18th century. The building is rendered with a pantile roof and stands three storeys high with three bays. The central wide carriage arch is flanked by shop doors and windows. On the left, there is a six-panel door with an overlight and a plate-glass window featuring 19th-century casing. On the right, there is a half-glazed 20th-century door with an overlight that has glazing bars, along with a 20th-century shop window. The first and second floors each have three 16-pane sash windows set in recessed frames with projecting sills. There is a narrow sash window between the two right-hand windows on the first floor. The building has end stacks. The archway provides access to the yard behind the Harts Horn Hotel on Silver Street, and the building's form is typical of the High Street in the 18th century. It is included for its group value.
