Description

Groom's House, stables now converted into a residential unit, and adjoining walls are located approximately 20 metres north of Hazlewood Castle. This structure dates from the mid to late 18th century and is likely the work of architect John Carr. It is constructed from magnesian limestone ashlar and features a grey slate roof.

The house is two storeys high and consists of three bays. It has a plinth and a recessed round-arched arcade that includes a central round-arched entrance with an eight-fielded-panel door. The windows are round-arched, multi-paned, and have radial glazing at the top. There is a continuous impost band and a first-floor continuous sill band, with six-pane sashes set beneath flat arches. The eaves project, and the roof is hipped.

The walls adjoining the house form two sides of a courtyard to the west and south. The south side features a Tudor-arched carriage entrance. The arcade consists of arches within recessed arches, some of which are blind, with a continuous impost band and a band above. These walls connect to the castle at the rear. At the time of the last survey, the west side was undergoing alterations.
