Description
Crossroads Farmhouse is a public house that has been converted into a farmhouse, dating from around 1800 with some minor alterations in the 20th century. The building is constructed of rubble stone, partly rendered, and features a hipped stone-slate roof with three chimney stacks. It stands two storeys tall.
The main south front has five windows and a central doorway that is framed with a stucco surround, featuring a six-panel door with an overlight. On either side of the door are two tall 12-pane glazing-bar sash windows. Above, there are five 9-pane glazing-bar sash windows. The side elevations are irregular with two windows, and there is a two-storey, three-window wing attached to the north-east corner, which has two tripartite windows on its rear facade. The rear of the house is highlighted by a large round-headed staircase window with glazing bars.
Inside, the farmhouse retains original panelled doors, plaster coving, and shuttered windows throughout. Some original fireplaces remain, including a white marble one on the ground floor and a wooden one above. A large round-headed archway with fluted pilasters leads to a substantial single-flight-return staircase, which features two turned balusters per tread and a rounded scroll newel post.
Overall, Crossroads Farmhouse is a good-quality example of a late-Georgian style house, with many original features still intact.
