Description
This is a barn, byre, and pigeoncote range built around 1859 for James Bray, likely by the architects Andrews and Delauney. It is constructed of coursed squared gritstone and features graduated grey slate roofs. The barn has approximately 11 bays and includes a low, two-storey, two-bay range with an attached square two-storey pigeoncote that projects at a right angle to the right.
The barn features a central segmental-arched cart entrance with a keystone set in a slightly projecting pedimented bay, flanked by triangular-headed byre doorways and windows, most of which are blocked. There are two pitching doors to the left, while the rest of the upper wall has narrow slit vents. The structure includes an eaves band, a moulded kneeler, and gable coping on the left side.
On the left return, there is a central window similar to the front, flanked by slit vents on the upper floor, and a single slit vent in the gable. The projecting range has an open ground floor on the left and two small paired windows with plain surrounds below the eaves. The pigeoncote features three round-arched openings with a moulded impost band and keystones, along with four tiers of eight pigeon holes with stone perches set in a shallow arched recess on the upper floor. It also has a moulded and modillioned eaves cornice and a pyramidal roof. This building is included for its group value.
