Description

This is a house, built in 1834 with 20th-century additions. It was endowed by Theodosia Brooke Osbaldeston of Gateforth Hall. The house is constructed of gault brick with ashlar dressings and has a blue slate roof. It is two storeys high with three first-floor windows, and a single-storey, two-window range was added to the left in the 20th century. Steps lead to a central 20th-century glazed door, which is protected by a doorcase featuring engaged Doric columns, a frieze of triglyphs and metopes, and an open pediment. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, set within gauged brick flat arches with stone sills. Ground-floor windows have slatted shutters. An ashlar cill band runs along the first floor, and an ashlar eaves cornice tops the building. The roof is hipped with flat edges and has four central chimneys.
