Description

This is an early to mid-19th century house located on Main Road, Hambleton. It is constructed of brownish-red brick in Flemish bond, with ashlar dressings, a wooden doorcase and eaves band, and a slate roof. The house is arranged around a central staircase hall. The central part of the building is two storeys high with three first-floor windows, and it is flanked by single-storey, single-bay wings. The front door is a six-panel design with an oblong fanlight, situated under a cornice and hood supported by engaged and freestanding pilasters. The windows are four-pane sashes to the centre and right wing, with a replacement sixteen-pane sash to the left wing, all set beneath ashlar wedge lintels with keyblocks and stone sills. An ashlar band runs along the first floor, and a modillion eaves cornice tops the building. The roof is hipped, with two chimney stacks. The flat-roofed wings have ashlar coping. A staircase window is located at the rear, featuring a sash window with glazing bars and radial glazing in the head. Inside, the front ground floor windows have shutters, and the original staircase remains.
