Description

Aldbrough Hall is a house dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed sandstone with a Westmorland slate roof. The house has a double-depth plan and is arranged with a 1:3:1 bay facade. Chamfered rusticated quoins mark the corners. The central three bays project slightly and feature a pediment with an ashlar tympanum. The main entrance is a six-panel door with a fanlight of Gothic glazing bars, set within a round-arched ashlar architrave flanked by pilaster capitals. The architrave is further adorned with a fluted frieze and quatrefoil paterae, topped with a pediment. Sash windows with glazing bars are set within architraves. The roof is hipped, with stacks rising from the outer sides of the U-shaped roof. The left return is of rubble construction and contains two six-panel doors in ashlar surrounds. A staircase window has a round-arched ashlar surround with a sash window containing glazing bars, creating a Venetian-style effect, though the right-hand light is blocked. The interior remains uninspected.
