Stable Block Approximately 20 Metres East of Settrington House

The stable block, located approximately 20 metres east of Settrington House, dates from 1791 and was built for Sir Mark and Lady Henrietta Masterman Sykes. Part of the building is now used as domestic accommodation, while the remainder serves for storage. The front is made of finely tooled sandstone, with dressed sandstone on the sides and rear, and features a timber eaves course and a slate roof. The building is U-shaped in plan and consists of a two-storey range with seven bays, including taller centre bays set on a plinth.

The central bay has a full-height round-headed carriage arch with imposts and a clock above. There are part-glazed doors with pivoting fanlights on either side of the arch, along with two 12-pane windows with pivoting upper halves to the left and one similar window on the right end. Each side of the arch has two six-pane pivoting windows on the upper floor. All windows have stone sills and tripartite keyed lintels. A mounting block is located beside the door on the right, and beneath the arch to the left is an original six-panel door with ventilation slits in the top panels. Inside, a tall panelled cupboard houses the clock winding mechanism.

The roof features a pyramidal design with a ball finial on the centre bay, and a yard bell on a wrought-iron bracket to the left. The remaining roof is pitched and hipped over the rear wings. The wings project on either side of the arch, with the left wing featuring two-light, small-pane horizontal sliding sashes on the ground floor and six-pane pivoting windows on the first floor, all with tripartite keyed lintels. The interior of the left range contains three loose boxes with 18th-century partitions and fittings.
