Description
Nos 38 and 39 are a pair of cottages dating from around 1800, with a later extension and 20th-century alterations. They are constructed from squared limestone, featuring a brick eaves course and irregular hammered quoins. There is a brick outshut attached to no 39, and the cottages have a pantile roof with partly rebuilt brick stacks.
The front of the cottages is two stories high with four windows, and there is a single-storey lean-to extension to the left. No 38, on the left, has a central door and 20th-century two-light, small-pane casements throughout. No 39 features a four-panel door and 20th-century cross windows on the ground floor, with two-light, small-pane casements on the first floor. The stone sills of no 39 are painted, and all ground-floor openings have painted wedge lintels, while the first-floor windows have painted timber lintels.
To the rear, there is a single-storey outshut added to no 39, which has a catslide roof. The cottages have end and centre stacks and are included for their group value.
