Description
South Lodge is a lodge associated with Whitwell Hall, likely built around 1835 by Pritchard and Watson, with a 20th-century addition. It is constructed of limestone ashlar and Westmorland slate, featuring a cruciform plan with an addition at the rear. The building is single-storey and has three bays. The central bay projects and has a gabled roof with octagonal angle turrets and a five-light straight-headed window. There is a blank shield in the gable. To the left, there is a two-light pointed window, and to the right, an elliptical-headed board door. The lodge also has diagonal buttresses, gable coping, and kneelers on the side wings, with a stack located at the rear.
