Description
The School Room is a school building constructed in 1841 for Colonel Cholmley. It is made of coursed limestone rubble with brick dressings and features pantile roofs along with two brick gable stacks. The building is single storey. The main front has a central doorway with a plank door set beneath a segment arched brick lintel. Above the door is an ashlar plaque that reads, "This school was erected by Colonel Cholmley in the year 1841." Flanking the doorway are two large three-light casement windows with glazing bars, also under segmental brick arches. The rear of the building includes a small lean-to with a catslide roof on the left, and a central casement window with glazing bars beneath a segmental brick arch lintel.
Inside, the School Room retains its original plank doors and plank cupboard doors. There are single painted brick fireplaces at either end of the room, each with flanking cupboards.
