Description
West Lodge is a cottage ornée dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. It features a pebble-dash exterior over red brick and has a partly missing stone slate roof. The building is single storey and five-sided, with an additional bay at the rear. There is a doorway on the north side, which is currently missing its door, located under a deep porch supported by four wooden posts, one of which is missing. The windows are wooden cross-windows with stone sills, and the frame to the right of the door is also missing. The cottage has central brick stacks with three diagonally-set flues and ashlar bands.
Inside, there are two main living rooms, one of which contains a cast-iron grate and a small cooking range. The rear room features original wooden cupboard doors and a small cast-iron grate. The additional bay appears to have been unheated. The building has been empty for several years and is located close to the A1, where it has suffered extensive vandalism.
