RIPON FIRBY LANE (west side) Ripon and District Hospital: Main Block
II
Former Dispensary, now hospital 1850. Red brick with ashlar dressings. Slate hipped roof and ashlar parapet. Ashlar plinth, raised quoins, raised first floor and cill bands, plus moulded eaves cornice. 2 storey. East front, 6 bay centre, with projecting 2 bay centre topped by an open pediment. Central round headed doorway with double panel doors and single plain fanlight, in moulded ashlar surround with keystone. Either. side rusticated piers with bracketted flat hood, beyond single narrow, round headed margin light sashes with pilasters beyond. Above frieze has 'DISPENSARY' in raised letters. Either side 2 glazing bar sashes in shouldered and eared ashlar surrounds with keystones. Above 6 glazing bar sashes in plain ashlar surrounds. 3 bay, lower wing to south with pairs of plain sashes in ashlar surrounds with pilaster strips between. To the north another lower wing with 2 single and a pair of plain sashes and a panel door, with above 3 single and a double window, all with plain ashlar surrounds.
