Description
Rowntree House is a shop and office building dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of pale red-brown local brick and features cogged eaves beneath a pantile roof. The building has two storeys and consists of five bays. The second bay from the right contains a six-panel door with an oblong fanlight, which is flanked by reeded pilasters. These pilasters support a modillion pediment that includes a lion's head in the frieze. To the right, there is a 20th-century shop window, and further right is another six-panel door with an oblong fanlight that has glazing bars. On the left side, there is a carriage entrance with a door above it. The upper floors feature 12 and 16-pane sash windows set in flush wood architraves.
