Description
No 38 Bondgate is a house with two distinct building phases. It dates from the early to mid-18th century but has earlier origins and was enlarged in the 19th century. The structure features a cruck frame and is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, which has been overbuilt and enlarged with hammer-dressed sandstone. The roof is covered with pantiles, and there are brick stacks. The house has a through-passage plan and stands two storeys tall with four bays of framing. The entrance features a 20th-century half-glazed door, and there are Yorkshire sash windows throughout, except for a modern casement window to the left of the door. The building has end stacks and the interior includes three pairs of crucks. It was formerly used as a bakery.
